AaltMD made a $180 million net loss in the first calendar quarter, as the chip-maker continued to fall behind its biggest rivals.

Overall, AMD earned $1.03 billion in revenue in Q1, a decline of 26 per cent over the same quarter last year. The company lost $180 million, significantly reduced from a $364 million loss in the first quarter of 2014. On a non-GAAP basis, the company lost $73 million.

That reduction in its GAAP losses is partially down to the drastic reduction in its workforce last October, when AMD cut 700 jobs following a weak Q3 for its Computing and Graphics segment. The general manager of Computing and Graphics resigned his post in January.

Hours ahead of the Battlefield Hardline beta, Origin has published the game's minimum and recommended system requirements. They're a little more demanding than the Battlefield 4 specs: you can no longer run the game on a 32-bit version of Windows, and you'll need double the hard drive space, too.

While the minimum specs below will apply for the final build, EA warns those running 4GB of RAM or less that they may encounter issues with the beta, as optimisation has yet to be completed for lower-end PCs. You're advised to "close all other applications while playing the game".

Nvidia’s GTX 970 launch exceeded even the most ambitious expectations and added severe pressure to AMD’s r9 290 GPU given the surprisingly low price point of the 970. Significantly lower power consumption, reduced temperatures, 0db idle silent mode on certain SKUs all made the 970 an attractive proposition for the mainstream gaming market.
