altMicrosoft today announced the acquisition of Mojang, including the studio's blockbuster Minecraft franchise, in a deal worth $2.5 billion. Mojang's Owen Hill confirmed the news in a posting on the company's website, explaining why Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson consented to the sale. altThe issue does not appear to be entirely widespread. While I did have issues signing into Xbox Live with my Xbox 360, my Xbox One did not pose any problems.We've reached out to Microsoft for details on Xbox Live's current issues and will update this story if more information emerges.

altSeveral gaming servers have been at the receiving end of DDoS attacks over the past several hours. Blizzard's Battle.net servers, Riot's League of Legends, Grinding Gear Games' Path of Exile, and PlayStation Network are among those under attack by a group of hackers calling themselves Lizard Squad.

MachineGames' debut is the second biggest release of the year after Titanfall

MachineGames' Wolfenstein: The New Order enjoyed a strong debut week in the UK, becoming the second biggest release of 2014 behind Titanfall.

Wolfenstein accounted for 25 per cent of all software sales in the UK last week, reaching number one in the all-formats chart for the first time in the history of the franchise. It also toppled EA's FIFA 14 in the process, which finished the week in third place.
